Final Demineralised Storage Tank completes hydrotest, ready for next phase
The successful hydrotest of the South Demineralisation Water Storage Tank (SER) marks the end of the mechanical phase for this scope of work. This project included the design, material procurement, and on-site erection of five tanks, with the MEH Alliance commencing work back in January 2022.
On Friday 22 November, MEH filled the tank with 5 million litres of water, holding it for a period of 24 hours. During the test, the Quality team conducted a thorough inspection of the tank seams, and surveyors carefully monitored tank settlement. This achievement reflects the collaboration among the various teams involved.
The next step is for the final tank to be painted and insulated in 2025 – this work is already progressing on the other four tanks. Moving into Q1, the first tank will be handed over to the commissioning team as part of the “Drive for Demineralisation Water”. Commissioning of the tank, along with the adjacent Demineralisation Station Building (HY) will then enable the Project to maintain a supply of demineralised water throughout the construction phase, further supporting hydrotesting of pipes and tanks.
BOP Area Lead, Nathan Phelps, shared his thoughts on the milestone and collaboration saying ”over the past 2 years, our tank construction team have achieved over 60,000 safe working hours. We have faced many challenges in this time but have implemented lessons learned to improve build efficiency and ensure the highest possible quality standards.”
This milestone could not have been achieved without collaboration across the multidisciplinary MEH team.
