MEH Alliance fitted first spools in the Nuclear Island

This month, the team has achieved a project milestone by successfully fitting the first pieces of pipework inside the Balance of Nuclear Island, a section of the nuclear power station which contains important safety and support systems. The pipework will form part of the safety components that cool down fluid systems and will feed cooling water to the steam generators.

The milestone is a significant step towards installing to what will amount to nearly 335km of pipework within the mechanical, electrical, heating and ventilation (MEH) scope, which is enough to run from Bristol to London and back.

Max Parfitt, MEH Area Lead, said: “The first installation is a great milestone for the whole project team and sets us up for the initiation of bigger installations”.

Mahmoud El Khaldi, EDF Senior Project Manager, said: “The team have worked very hard over the past years to get us to this point. Achieving this milestone has left me immensely proud of everyone, and excited to see us delivering significantly more pipe and supports in the near future.”
