National Apprenticeship Week – meet Megan Ellicott

Megan Ellicott, Pipefitting Apprentice

Megan, from Bridgwater, is one of MEH’s pipefitting apprentices working in the Unit 1 Electrical Building. The 21-year-old is currently in the third year of her apprenticeship, and her family members who are in the nuclear sector have inspired her to take on this apprenticeship.

Enjoying the practical side of the apprenticeship

“I enjoy the practical side of the apprenticeship, being hands-on, and also being able to learn from the qualified pipefitters around me, finding different ways to come up with technical solutions to any problems that may occur. Usually, we start the day off with an activity and safety briefing in the morning, then collect all the equipment needed for the rest of the day. In my role, I get to prepare and use both machines and grinders as well as learning how to use the right fittings and clamps for different pipework.”

Diverse workforce at HPC

“I’m proud to be part of a diverse workforce. The team I work with is great, and this allows me to pick up good habits and experiences from different work trades and more qualified team members. It’s a great opportunity to learn as you earn.”
