National Apprenticeship Week – meet Stan Taylor

Stan Taylor, Electrical Apprentice
Stan, 19 years old, travels from Minehead to undertake his electrical apprenticeship with MEH Alliance. Currently in his third year of the programme, he has always been interested in gaining hands-on experience while earning a wage.
Set for life
“It’s a no-brainer to join, really. They provide a recognised qualification, and I know with this, I’m set for life. The apprenticeship opportunities offered by the project improve employability and allow me to learn from experienced professionals. For me, this is a practical way to enter a specific trade or profession.”
Safety is everything
“We take safety very seriously on this project. My typical day includes an early start with a safety briefing, followed by assisting electricians on the job. So far, I’ve learned how to keep myself and others safe while working. Being on the largest project in Europe, the safety at Hinkley Point C is second to none.”
It’s a solid choice
“I’m learning to install wiring and understand electrical systems. This project is massive, and there’s so much to learn. No day is the same; I like the variety of work. Most apprenticeships offer streamlined skills and knowledge, but it’s from the people that I learn something new every day. I would say to others wanting to start an apprenticeship with MEH – it’s a solid choice. You’ll get hands-on experience and learn directly from skilled workers, which is invaluable. It can really set you up for success in your career.”
